The Challenge
The tea tree harvester project began with a small farming operation. The customer, who had spent many years in the tea tree growing industry, was ready to upgrade his original harvester, which had reached the end of its lifespan. He needed a new machine that was more reliable, powerful, and straightforward. Additionally, the customer enjoyed building his own equipment, so he wanted to be directly involved in the construction of the new harvester, adding his personal touch. Working closely with the customer, he built the basic frame to support the harvesting mechanism. From there, we designed a more efficient tea tree harvester, which we then adapted to fit the propulsion frame he had built. We supplied all the necessary hydraulics, engines, and cooling systems, providing precise measurements and mounting assistance to ensure everything fit perfectly. Through this collaborative effort, we helped the client achieve his vision for a powerful, efficient, and custom-built tea tree harvester.
The Solution
We began by sitting down with the client to gain a complete understanding of his vision for the harvester. With 20 years of experience in tea tree farming, he was a subject matter expert who knew exactly what fundamentals the equipment needed to achieve to work efficiently on his own farm. Together, we outlined the essential capabilities and performance expectations for the machine, taking all of this into account in our design process. We proposed an optimal design configuration that was more power-efficient, allowing us to utilise fewer and more efficient hydraulic components. After finalising the design, we developed a custom mulching and cutting head, which we manufactured and delivered to the client. This allowed him to apply his unique colour scheme and mount it onto the propulsion frame, making it truly his own.
Results of The Project
The result was a compact, efficient unit that could confidently navigate a tea tree paddock, delivering a thorough and precise harvest with minimal misses. The machine was designed for easy maintenance and excellent accessibility, ensuring ongoing reliability and efficiency. Most importantly, we achieved a satisfied customer who not only received a powerful and effective machine but also had the opportunity to add his personal touch to the final product.
